Remarkable Moment During Women's History Month
Have you thought about Ketanji Brown Jackson having the hearing during Women's History Month? Wow! I love that ALL women across the U.S. and the world can witness her nomination to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. My heart was filled with similar joy when I had the opportunity to see Michelle Obama become the First Lady and Kamala Harris become the first African American woman to become the Vice President of the United States of America.
I have watched women of different hues speak proudly of Michelle, Kamala, and Ketanji's accomplishments. I did not say that EVERY woman was proud, which is puzzling to me. We have read and watched each of these remarkable women work diligently towards a vision for the greater good, not only for Black women or women; they have worked towards improving life for all humans. Yes, I have mentioned three of the most influential women in the last decade. However, we all know there are many women that I can speak of that simply leads with influence and humbly walk with authority to achieve greatness.
So, why did it not feel wonderful to watch the hearing of the nomination of an overqualified Judge to the U.S. Supreme Court, Ketanji Brown Jackson? I can write about the disrespectful tones of questioning and behavior that some Senators demonstrated towards Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson; however, I want to laser beam on how professional she is at being a professional. She has been said to be one of the best nominated to the court. And yet, we, as Americans, watched during Women's History Month the disrespect towards a woman that continues to illuminate grace and poise.
As we reflect on the women who have paved a path for us to journey towards our vision, let's remember Ketanji Brown Jackson's word Perseverance. Encourage a woman each day to remember she is enough and can do it.
Ketanji Brown Jackson has been an example of servant leadership, modeling the behavior of a Supreme Court justice, inspiring women, and people to stand on truth against bullies, listening not to get tripped up by the gymnastics of rhetoric and engaging with strength and encouragement.
Approaching the end of Women's History Month, we can look back and say that Ketanji Brown Jackson S.M.I.L.E. throughout her nomination hearing.
